Sweden is a wonderful place to live and many people move there to start a new life. From Stockholm to Marstrand, there is a vibe and culture to suit most, but where are the best places in Sweden to put down roots?
Let’s explore a few destinations and see where the best places to live are and why you should keep them in mind. If you are looking for a removal service to Sweden, make sure to visit Pinnacle Removals & Storage.
1. Stockholm
As the capital of Sweden, Stockholm commands a lot of respect for being the country's central hub. Comparisons are often drawn between the city and Venice due to similarities in architecture - both have a gorgeous old town area and extensive waterways.
Stockholm is a thriving city that is full of culture, great nightlife and cuisine. Stockholm is also a natural paradise, having a surprising amount of green spaces and water for people to call home.
There are so many parks and promenades that it’s easy to find somewhere nice to relax. Plus, the largest concentration of jobs and opportunities will be here.
2. Gothenburg
A lot of people tend to pass over Gothenburg in favour of places like Stockholm. However, this is something you don’t want to do, because the city is often considered to be a hidden gem in comparison. It’s located on the West Coast, and it’s a very charming city with plenty of green spaces and a very laid-back lifestyle, a lot like Stockholm.
One of the things that people love most about the area is how close it is to the ocean. Understandably, this brings in a lot of seafood, and if you enjoy fish, you will have plenty of options to choose from.
The consistent joy that comes from this particular style of cuisine is that all of the fish will be locally caught and fresh, delivered straight to the restaurants and supermarkets in the city. In fact, seafood is one of the areas where Sweden excels.
As a final interesting note, because the city is located so close to the coast, there are plenty of water sports available for you to enjoy. Sailing, fishing and kayaking are all common activities.
3. Marstrand
If the idea of city life doesn’t appeal to you, then you can always come away from big areas and move to somewhere like Marstrand. This is a really nice seaside town which can offer a lot of people. It’s not a big city by any means, there’s only a few thousand people on average so it’s good for anybody who wants to get away from it all and enjoy themselves.
The main appeal of the area is the coastline. There are miles of beaches and cliffs for you to enjoy. It’s a very natural place, and a very beautiful place. You could go swimming, you could try your hand at hiking, or you could just relax and enjoy yourself. Obviously, you’re also welcome to take full advantage of the coast, as the Baltic Sea is on the doorstep.
4. Solna
If you want to work in Stockholm but don’t have a place in the city, Solna is a good choice. It is just to the north of Stockholm and is within commuting distance.
Solna is a place which is known for natural beauty and this is no bad thing for anyone but the area is also home to three palaces for Swedish royalty. One of the most famous places in the city is Ulriksdal Palace, for example. This was built in the 17th century and is now used full-time as a residence for the Swedish Royal Family. Visitors frequently enjoy the gardens and Baroque architecture.
Alternatively, you may want to visit Haga Palace. This is a location which is also used by royalty but has only been around since the 19th Century instead. It remains a popular tourist destination, however.
5. Visby
If you’re after something a little different then we can definitely recommend that you take a look at Visby. It is a small mediaeval town on an island called Gotland, which is located in the Baltic Sea just off the coast of Sweden.
It’s a small town by any stretch of the imagination - just 22,000 people. However, for the privilege of entry you do get amazing views and amazing architecture which has survived hundreds of years. There are also plenty of castles, churches and monasteries in the local area, so you’ve got weekend plans pretty much for the rest of time!
This is a place you’d live if liked the idea of being out of the general public eye. The Baltic Sea is enough of a distance from Sweden itself, but it’s also accessible enough via boat and other forms of suitable transport.
The Many Charms of Sweden
As we can see, there are a lot of charms in Sweden which make it a great place to live and work. In this list we’ve aimed to present a variety of options, because you have a few available to you. There are plenty of amazing options in the city and in the quieter areas outside it.
This means that there’s something for everyone and you can decide according to your values as a person - whether you’re interested in the hustle and bustle of city life and capitalism or the quiet draw of nature.
Moving is a big challenge for anyone and the one thing we do recommend is that you prepare for the occasion by being careful about when you move and how much prep work you do beforehand. It is worth exploring things like local culture and what parts of life need arranging beforehand - like your bank account.
Having things ready to go before you get there will make a massive difference to how smooth the transition is. Pinnacle Removals & Storage are happy to help you get stuck into moving, of course - Sweden is somewhere we’ve moved people to many times and it’s easy for us to provide support.
